How each story is told
The Crime Portal produces thoroughly researched documentaries about murder and missing-person cases. Each video draws on police appeals, contemporary reporting, court material, archival records and the testimony of people close to the case.
Videos feature original footage of the locations involved, including aerial photography captured by specialist drone operators. Seeing the real landscape can provide important context that photographs and maps alone cannot convey. Every effort is made to approach people connected to each case for interviews whenever it is appropriate and practical to do so, giving those with first-hand knowledge an opportunity to tell the story in their own words.
The aim is clarity, not spectacle. Each case is presented with care, remembering those at its centre as people with lives, relationships and stories—not simply as victims of what happened to them. Uncertainty is acknowledged honestly rather than replaced with speculation or invention.
This approach takes longer, but it is essential to telling each story responsibly and with the care it deserves.
Why The Crime Portal exists
The Crime Portal began with a frustration. There are some excellent true-crime channels producing thoughtful, responsible work, but they sit among a much larger number built around speed, sensationalism and repetition. I wanted to create something different: factual films that come as close to traditional documentaries as my skills, time and budget allow.
Where possible, I focus on cases that have received less attention. These stories can be more difficult to research because contemporary reporting, archive footage and other reliable source material may be limited. That makes the work more challenging, but a lack of coverage should never be mistaken for a lack of importance.
True crime deals with real lives, real loss and families who may still be living with unanswered questions. It deserves care and attention, not manufactured drama designed to generate clicks. That principle shapes how every video uploaded by The Crime Portal is created.
You will not find shocked-face thumbnails, empty reaction shots or frequent cuts to a presenter speaking into the camera. Those devices would add little to the story and risk making somebody else’s worst day feel like a prop. I am not here to place myself at the centre of the channel or build a personal brand. I am here to tell real stories about real people, as accurately and respectfully as I can.
This means choosing quality over quantity. Researching, writing and producing each documentary properly takes time, particularly when the available source material is sometimes scarce. The production values have developed considerably since the first video back in 2022, and the aim is for every new documentary to be better than the one before it.
