CASE SUMMARY

In April of the year 2000, a 14 year old girl living under the care of local authorities was reported missing in the town of Kettering, Northamptonshire. Police would be disappointingly slow to react due to the teenager’s history of running away.

A murder inquiry would be announced three years later following extensive national media coverage and consistent pressure from the missing teenager’s family.

The disappearance would eventually lead to major changes in the way children in care are treated and looked after in Northamptonshire after an inquiry found local authorities had missed several opportunities to identify the teenager as a child at risk, despite being aware of concerning behaviour including substance abuse.
